Brian Cook’s (Spoiler Free) Review Of Early Screening Of “SHAZAM!”
Well I had the chance to go to one of the early screenings of DC’s comic book hero “SHAZAM!” as he literally hit the big screen.
The movie focuses on 14 year old “Billy Batson” (played by Asher Angel) and his struggle to find his missing Mother who he was separated from when he was a toddler. From foster home to foster home Billy never feels at home. His recent placement connects him with a foster family who actually care, but Billy has other plans. His connection to his foster brother Freddy (played by “IT”‘s Jack Dylan Grazer) is the best part of the story and yields the most laughs and heart. The film really takes off when Billy meets a wizard who passes his powers to him. Those powers are that of a super hero. Whenever Billy says the wizard’s name “SHAZAM!” he transforms into a super hero (played by Zachary Levi). Zachary Levi was born to play this man – child super hero.
The movie’s villain Doctor Sivana (played by the amazing Mark Strong) is a well developed character with motive and menace. Something many super hero movie sometimes miss the mark on.
“SHAZAM!” deliverers everything you want in a super hero movie, Action, Fun, Excitement and Heart. The movie had the charge of the 1980’s classic “BIG” with the wonder and fun of Chris Reeves SUPERMAN MOVIE.
Fun for the whole family…and it’s about the true importance of Family in it’s many forms.
*Stick around for 2 post credit scenes*.
My Rating: 4 out of 5
