COVID-19 in Winnipeg: Closures and More

Manitoba is ramping up its health-care system to take on COVID-19, as well as closures are popping up everywhere as a preventative measure to stop the spread of this virus.
The Canadian government as well as health officials are reminding everyone to not panic, but to remain responsible. Below is a list of what’s closed and affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as a list of good social distancing and hygiene techniques.

 

WHATS EFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC:

  • All Manitoba schools will be closed one week prior to spring break, spring break, and one week following.
  • The City of Winnipeg has closed all pools, libraries, and community centres until further notice.
  • Cineplex, Landmark Cinemas to be closed until further notice
  • Kildonan Place Mall, Polo Park Mall, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and Grant Park Shopping Centre to operate on reduced hours. Garden City and St Vital Shopping Centre cancelled all events for March.
  • Most entertainment events are being taken on a case-by-case, but will be cancelled or postponed.
  • Manitoba Courts are preparing for a shut down.
  • Most Manitoban Casinos are running VLTS only.
  • Announced Monday March 15th: Canadian Borders will be closed to anyone who isn’t a Canadian or American Citizen with few exceptions.
  • Winnipeg International Airport to be closed.

WHAT GOVERNMENT AND HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE REMINDING US TO DO:

  • Minimize prolonged contact (more than 10 minutes) and close contact (less than two metres) with people in public.
  • Avoid greetings that involve touching (like handshakes).
  • Disinfect frequently used surfaces.
  • Consider avoiding travel, as well as crowded places and events, especially if you are at higher risk.
